About the Role

Key responsibilities:

  • Principally responsible for daily, hands-on in vivo breeding support. This includes the following procedures: 

Establish and take down mating pairs 

Perform ear and tail biopsies 

Apply and read animal identifications (both ear tag and tail tattoos) 

Enter animal data into database 

Print and edit cage cards 

Perform plug checks 

Perform IP hormone injections 

Perform supply requests 

Perform relocation requests 

Perform protocol transfer requests 

Wean pups 

Mouse Euthanasia 

  • Routinely responsible for ensuring compliance with all institutional and regulatory protocols, policies, and guidelines 
  • Responsible for pursing continuous learning/professional development opportunities and enhancing/expanding skill set as time allows. 
  • Team-oriented and interactive.  Supportive of peer/team development and performance 
  • Other duties and responsibilities as may be required. 

Essential Requirements:

  • 2-year degree in related field such as animal sciences.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a technical skills tract laboratory animal program required 
  • Able to perform basic in vivo breeding support (i.e. establishing mating pairs, tail cuts, ear tags, ear notches, tattooing, intraperitoneal injections, etc.) 
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, local (Animal Welfare) laws, departmental SOP’s and Good Laboratory Practices. 
  • Thorough understanding and comprehension of operational facts, techniques, nomenclature, equipment, theories, etc. as they relate specifically to job performance function in the laboratory animal research environment 
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and move heavy objects.
  • Must be able work from a standing position for prolonged time periods and perform repetitive motion tasks
  • Able to work during inclement weather and be on call for weekend/holiday rotations 

 Desirable Requirements:

  • ALAT Certification desirable or pursued after start or country specific equivalents as applicable 

The salary for this position is expected to range between $31.08 and $57.75 per hour.

The final salary offered is determined based on factors like, but not limited to, relevant skills and experience, and upon joining Novartis will be reviewed periodically. Novartis may change the published salary range based on company and market factors.

Your compensation will include a performance-based cash incentive and, depending on the level of the role, eligibility to be considered for annual equity awards.
