Portfolio strategy & operations is the department focusing on ensuring DEVELOPMENT China’s strategic direction, optimizing business process and resource allocation and maximizing internal/external business opportunity. Another focus of the department is to manage daily operations and internal/external communications.

About the Role

Key responsibilities:

Strategic Planning

  • Establish short-mid-long-term strategy to support DEVELOPMENT China sustainable growth
  • Drive key strategic imperatives and ensure robust implementation
  • Ensure alignment of strategic imperatives
  • Support high quality communication with senior management at a strategic level and ensure awareness of strategy and objectives across the organization​

Performance management

  • Track performance across DEVELOPMENT China functions to ensure aligning with DEVELOPMENT overall strategy and objectives
  • Ensure transparency and consistency on performance measurement and tracking for key initiatives

Competitive intelligence

  • Closely monitor local competitors (including MNCs in China and local companies) on high priority pipeline projects by collaborating with CI team
  • Drive business implication analysis of competitive intelligence to optimize development strategy

Ad-hoc DEVELOPMENT China strategic initiatives

  • Manage/lead key cross-functional strategy projects to improve operational excellence
  • Provide project management support on key projects to other functions

Strategic partnership/MOU

  • Lead systemic assessment of potential partners with DEVELOPMENT China
  • Design customized solutions together with cross functions
  • Manage the outcomes of strategic partnership/MOU programs under Novartis compliance/financial guidance

Essential requirements:

  • Masters’ degree or above, preferentially in pharmacology/medicine/biology from top-tier university (MD/PhD preferred)
  • Fluent in both Chinese and English listening writing speaking and reading
  • Top-tier management consulting experience (at least three years)
  • Pharmaceutical industry (including MNC, local biotech) is a plus
  • Matrix leadership experienc
