The SSO Strategy & Operations Country/Cluster Head is accountable for country/cluster communication strategy, information management and in-country/cluster SSO communication to internal and external stakeholders.
About the Role
Key responsibilities:
- Collaborates and aligns with the Head Strategy & Operations/SSO Strategy & Operations Hub Heads to translate, implement, and execute the global/hub strategic plan in the country/cluster to support the organization to become the industry leader
- Provides country/cluster feedback and insights to the Head Strategy & Operations/SSO Strategy & Operations Hub Heads and ensures country/cluster needs are incorporated into the global/hub strategy as needed
- Drives successful execution of innovative key strategic projects in line with short-, medium- and long-term strategies
- Accountable for operational excellence, productivity, and performance in the country/cluster, in close collaboration with the SSO Strategy & Operations Country/Cluster Head, the SSO Country/Cluster Head Portfolio and the Country/Cluster Head Finance in alignment with GCO strategy
- Identifies country/cluster-specific opportunities, challenges, and risks, supports mitigation
- Drives innovation and change management processes, identifies strategic solutions to improve clinical study execution
- Drives implementation of country/cluster-specific communication strategy in line with global/hub strategy
- Leads implementation of information management and communication standards and their further development and optimization
- Supports global/hub information and transformation initiatives, change management and SSO evolution incl. culture and mindset change
- Analyzes external benchmarking, trends, and regulations in the country/cluster
- Provides country/cluster-specific input to be considered in the global/hub SSO strategy
- Represents SSO in any GCO-/GDD-wide initiatives in relation to Strategy and Operations when country/cluster representation is needed
- Supports the Country/Cluster LT to ensure that country/cluster-specific projects are in line with global/hub strategy
- Supports the Portfolio Head in country/cluster-specific study allocation strategy
- Collaborates with other SSO Strategy & Operations Country/Cluster Heads as well as Head Strategy & Operations and SSO Strategy & Operations Hub Heads to build a strong and aligned functional network
- Promotes a compliance culture advocating the adherence to highest standards and ethical integrity, ensuring human subject protection and reliability of trial results at all times
Essential requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in life sciences required; Advanced Degree in scientific or business preferred
- Fluent in both written and spoken English
- Country language is of advantage
- Minimum 8 years’ experience in pharmaceutical development, preferably in clinical research, and/or monitoring clinical trials
- Experienced in Operations and Strategy of pharmaceutical development processes and in technical approaches
- Thorough understanding of the international and national aspects of drug development process, including expert knowledge of international standards (GCP/ICH), health authorities (FDA/EMA), local/National Health Authorities regulations and Novartis standards
Desirable requirements:
- Demonstrated thorough change agile mind-set
- Business management and applied insights experience preferred
- Demonstrated Experience in performance management and productivity projects
- Demonstrated leadership in leading cross-functional teams
- Demonstrated application of quantitative approaches to re-designing processes, improving productivity and/or improving efficiency
- Organizational awareness, including experience working cross-functionally and in global teams
- Good strategic thinking skills
- Demonstrated matrix management skills and ability to influence without authority
- Excellent communicator and presenter (oral and written), ability to communicate to Sr. Leaders
