The Director Innovation Lab, Emerging Marketing Solutions (EMS) sits within the US Innovation Lab (iLab), part of the Marketing Technology Product Management team within the Integrated Marketing Organization. In this role, you will join a highly innovative and intrapreneurial group with a focus on accelerating emerging marketing solutions in the US. With a deep expertise in marketing tech, including AI, game design, and XR, you will help shape our EMS strategy and lead the experimentation and delivery of innovative emerging tech solutions and services aligned to Novartis US Objectives. The Director Innovation Lab, Emerging Marketing Solutions (EMS) will lead emerging marketing program management and solutions development, such as agentic marketing, game creation and content workflows—while actively evaluating and prioritizing future-facing technologies such as Web3, digital twins, XR, spatial, and IoT, etc. and strategic tech ventures that elevate external engagements. You will manage the execution of proof-of-concepts (POCs) through to MVPs, lead cross-functional teams, and foster a culture of continuous learning, and collaboration. Working with leaders across the organization, you will align strategic plans, define marketing technology roadmaps, and deliver measurable business impact. You will collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders and external partners to redefine customer experiences, drive operational efficiencies, and unlock new growth opportunities.

This position will be located at the East Hanover site and will not have the ability to be located remotely. This position will require 20% travel as defined by the business (domestic and/ or international).

About the Role

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: 

Planning & Coordination

  • Own marketing program management and solutions development of emerging marketing solutions pursuits, including agentic marketing, games, apps, and content flows, and customer-centric, customer-focused solutions, employing the Evidence-based, Data-driven Innovation Model and Innovation Framework to inform use case decision-making, prioritize efforts, and execute the solutions roadmap via Agile methodology, including resource planning, funding, and use case prioritization
  • Manage the execution of emerging marketing POCs/MVPs utilizing your knowledge of agentic and other common frameworks enabling emerging tech, identifying, analyzing, and mitigating risks and dependencies and collaborating with leaders across the enterprise to establish plans, solutions/product roadmaps, and approaches aligned to IMUS strategy and objectives to deliver results
  • Oversee the lifecycle of POCs/MVPs, from discovery, to development, to launch, to scale, validating or invalidating hypotheses and iterating to achieve business objectives
  • Be the iLab resident expert and a recognized expert in new and emerging marketing technologies, including agentic framework, game creation and their application to marketing solutioning, and provide thought leadership and iLab POV, accelerating capabilities and associate proficiency
  • Build a culture of continuous learning and improvement, fostering an environment that encourages experimentation, innovation, while minimizing risks
  • Lead cross-functional teams of experts and external strategic partners to enable experimentation and manage supporting activities execution, including comms, training, workshops, and hackathons
  • Leverage data, user research, competitive and market analysis to help define and execute Tech Venture strategy and roadmap, balancing short-term deliverables and long-term vision while ensuring human-centered design
  • Define and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the impact of initiatives.

Leadership & Execution

  • Lead multi-functional, multi-disciplinary teams of functional experts and external partners to co-develop and experiment potential solutions rooted in evidence-based hypotheses testing, using validated instruments, and data-driven analysis and ROI projections
  • Establish clear business case, KPIs, scope, estimate, resources, staffing, roles, and responsibilities and communicate vision to gain buy-in and inspire the team to relentlessly pursue objectives 

Monitoring & Reporting: 

  • Maintain program/ project program governance (Steering Committees, monthly business updates, monthly financial reporting, etc.)
  • Ensure team reporting consistency across multiple SharePoint and MS Teams sites ensuring documents are catalogued, easy to find, and up to date.  And ensure accurate minutes of meetings including key decisions, next steps, accountabilities, and timelines are timely published and maintained.
  • Ensure project / program insights, policies, playbooks, user handbooks are published and shared to contribute to continuous improvement and establishment of Innovation Lab templates that will accelerate experimentation and enable brand partners and other stakeholders to incorporate appropriate key learnings into brand strategy and tactics

 Essential Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Management, Marketing , Information Technology, Data Science or a related field. MBA, Master’s in related field preferred
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience working with commercial teams creating solutions with AI/GenAI, game creation, app develop and /or XR  and emerging technology
  • A minimum of 8 years of Marketing, Strategy, MarTech, Innovation, or consulting role
  • Deep demonstrated passion for innovation with intrapreneurial behaviors such as strategic thinking and problem-solving to drive change management necessary for enabling high impact solutions
  • Successful track record in driving disruptive thinking, leading ideation, and meeting business objectives
  • Significant experience in emerging technologies and their pharma-marketing application
  • Experience leading multiple solutions development cycles from concept to scale
  • Experience defining solutions requirements and using data and metrics to determine improvements
  • Demonstrated experience engaging and influencing senior executives

Desirable Requirements

  • Understanding of pharma industry and pharma marketing principles a plus

Novartis Compensation Summary:

The salary for this position is expected to range between $185,500 and $344,500 per year.

The final salary offered is determined based on factors like, but not limited to, relevant skills and experience, and upon joining Novartis will be reviewed periodically. Novartis may change the published salary range based on company and market factors.

Your compensation will include a performance-based cash incentive and, depending on the level of the role, eligibility to be considered for annual equity awards.
