This position will be based in Cambridge, MA.
We are seeking a highly motivated, creative, collaborative and skilled senior Scientist I or II with strong knowledge and experience in cell culture, in vitro model development for safety assessment and excellent communication skills to contribute to the development of Novartis next therapeutics within Preclinical Safety/Translational Medicine. The candidate will have a sound scientific background in experimental cell biology, in vitro model development and in vitro safety pharmacology assays. This role will involve working across the investigative translational toxicology and safety pharmacology groups, supporting a broad range of projects across all disease areas of NIBR.
About the Role
Key Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the establishment and evaluation of novel in vitro models for the safety assessment of novel drugs.
- Maintain cell lines used for standard cardiotoxicity assays (Optional: proficiency in cell culture automation and electrophysiology ion channel assays)
- Explore and provide technical recommendations regarding external resources that could complement internal capabilities for the safety assessment of novel drugs using alternative in vitro models. Liaise with CROs on ad-hoc basis for external activities.
- Collaborate and share experience with a team of bench scientists to perform experimental work, analyze data, identify and record the experimental output in electronic notebook. Show flexibility and adaptability when projects’ needs evolve.
- Present results to target teams and the broader PCS community.
- Organize lab operations across team members (ordering reagents, equipment maintenance, etc.).
- Proactively maintain current knowledge of scientific areas pertaining to advance in vitro model development, analytical technologies, and novel therapeutic modalities.
- Write SOPS where appropriate, ensure compliance to all protocols, procedures, and reporting.
Essential Requirements:
- Degree (MS or BS) in a scientific field related to cell biology, in vitro complex models and possibly toxicology.
- Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 5-6 plus years or Master’s degree and a minimum of 3 plus years relevant laboratory experience required.
- o be considered at the Senior Scientist II level must have a Bachelor’s with 8 plus years of experience or Master’s degree plus 5 years.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills. Comfortable working in a matrix environment.
- Working knowledge of overall drug development process.
Preferred Requirements:
- Well-developed/effective organizational skills (planning, time management, etc.)
- Scientific curiosity, enthusiasm for continuous learning.
- Broad understanding of scientific and technical operations in investigative toxicology.
- Critical and creative problem-solving skills with independent thinking.
This is a dual level posting. The final level and title of the offer role would be determined by the hiring team based on the skills, experience & capabilities required to perform the role at the level the role has been offered.
The salary for this position is expected to range between:
Senior Scientist I: $89,600 and $166,400 per year
Senior Scientist II: $93,800 and $174,200 per year
The final salary offered is determined based on factors like, but not limited to, relevant skills and experience, and upon joining Novartis will be reviewed periodically. Novartis may change the published salary range based on company and market factors.
Your compensation will include a performance-based cash incentive and, depending on the level of the role, eligibility to be considered for annual equity awards.
