Internal Title: Senior Expert I
Novartis is leading a transformation in cancer care through radioligand therapy (RLT), a cutting-edge approach that delivers targeted radiation directly to cancer cells. As a Senior Computational Biologist / Senior Expert I, you’ll join our dynamic RLT Oncology Data Science team in Cambridge/Watertown (MA), where creativity, flexibility and cross-disciplinary collaboration are key. Help us bring innovative drugs to the clinic by translating data science into target identification, indication prioritization, drug development, patient biomarker discovery and back-translation. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced biotech-like environment and who enjoys contributing across teams and disciplines.
About the Role
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to design, analyze and interpret high-dimensional biological data for RLT discovery.
- Apply bioinformatics and machine learning to integrate diverse datasets and uncover actionable biological insights.
- Drive oncology research by identifying targets, understanding mechanisms, and supporting patient stratification.
- Implement analytical methods for emerging technologies and ensure robust data processing pipelines.
- Lead integration of multi-modal datasets to generate holistic views of tumor biology and therapeutic response.
- Stay current with trends in computational biology and proactively apply innovative approaches to research.
- Communicate findings and strategic insights clearly to scientific and non-scientific audiences.
- Participate in cross-functional teams to shape project strategy and define key scientific questions.
Essential Requirements
- This position will be located at both the Cambridge, MA and Watertown, MA sites and will not have the ability to be located remotely. This position will require travel between both sites on a weekly basis.
- PhD + 2 years or MSc + 8 years of industry experience in computational biology, bioinformatics, data/computer science or related field.
- Proficiency in at least one of the following: Python or R, and familiarity with UNIX/Linux, version control and reproducible workflows.
- Demonstrated statistical and analytical rigor with multidimensional omics datasets such as transcriptomics and single-cell omics.
- Knowledge in cancer genomics, proteomics, cellular addressing or immuno-oncology.
- Understanding of best coding practices and collaborative data science workflows.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects and prioritize effectively.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset. Curiosity, creativity and a solution-oriented approach to scientific challenges.
Desirable Requirements
- Experience with radioligand therapy (RLT) drug discovery and/or imaging.
- Familiarity with clinical biomarker data processing and survival analysis.
The salary for this position is expected to range between $119,700 and $222,300 per year.
The final salary offered is determined based on factors like, but not limited to, relevant skills and experience, and upon joining Novartis will be reviewed periodically. Novartis may change the published salary range based on company and market factors.
Your compensation will include a performance-based cash incentive and, depending on the level of the role, eligibility to be considered for annual equity awards.
