focus on nature-positive outcomes.
About the Role
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop site-specific biodiversity management plans (BMPs) in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders that include baseline biodiversity assessments, identifying priority habitats and species, applying mitigation hierarchy, monitoring and evaluating BMP effectiveness.
- Assess nature related risks and opportunities in the sourcing of raw materials that include traceability and supplier engagement for standard requirements and certification efforts etc.,
- Drive execution and delivery of environmental sustainability targets of Novartis across Waste, Water, Biodiversity and Sustainable Sourcing
- Support the business define strategy and action plan in areas across Nature and Biodiversity related topics
- Active support in limited and reasonable assurance of environmental sustainability indicators in line with ISAE 3000 and other standards as applicable.
- Drive projects to ensure adherence and preparedness to comply with emerging regulations like EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), Green Taxonomy, Article 964 (Swiss regulations) etc.,
Desirable Requirements:
- Master’s degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or related field.
- 5-7 years of experience in biodiversity conservation, ecological monitoring and/or sustainable sourcing, preferably in pharma or related sectors.
- Strong understanding of biodiversity frameworks (e.g., TNFD, IPBES), sustainable commodity supply chains, and ecosystem services valuation to support nature-positive strategies and regulatory compliance.
- Experience with biodiversity risk assessment tools e.g. IBAT, Natura 2000 including data collection, qualitative and quantitative analysis and conservation planning.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and project management skills.
- Fluency in English; working knowledge of additional languages (e.g., German, French, Spanish) desirable.
- Ability to operate effectively in a global matrix environment.
