to be located remotely.
The Biologics Research Center (BRC) is seeking a highly motivated Research Scientist II with the skills and experience to contribute to advancing ADC drugs to patients in need. This is a great opportunity to join a group dedicated to protein, antibody oligonucleotide/ antibody drug conjugate discovery. The ideal candidate will possess a demonstrated expertise in protein sciences with an emphasis on protein purification, process optimization, and characterization. Responsibilities will include a range of activities related to protein purification and characterization of complex antibodies. The ideal candidate will be familiar in the design, optimization, and execution of multi-step purification, analytical data interpretation, troubleshooting and formulation of final product, while maintaining a highly productive and collaborative culture.
About the Role
Key Responsibilities:
- Independently design purification methods, understand biochemical concepts, interpret data and troubleshooting.
- Participate on project teams to discover, optimize, and manufacture antibody-based biologics, antibody-drug and/or oligonucleotide conjugates (ADCs/AOCs); offer technical advice at cross-functional team meetings; share technical expertise with other colleagues.
- Work effectively as a member of cross-functional teams to accomplish shared project goals.
- Special emphasis will be placed on automated antibody purification, which will involve working with Cytiva AKTA (Pure/Avant) and Unicorn software, and parallel purification using the Protein Maker.
- Mono and multi-specific antibody purification: preparation and packing of chromatography columns, and conducting endotoxin free chromatography, including operating preparative and analytical chromatography systems.
- Perform in-depth analytical characterization of molecules: endotoxin measurements, protein quantitation assays, analytical FPLC chromatography (anSEC)
- Coordinate the submission for supplementary biophysical characterization and interpret analytical results with area experts.
- Storing, inventorying, and ordering department supplies and chemicals and preparing chemical solutions according to department procedures, specifications, or supervisory instructions.
- Contemporaneous and accurate documentation of experiments in ELN and registration databases
- Contribute to patents, publications, and technical reports
Essential Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or related discipline with 2 years of work experience, preferably in an industrial setting
- Understanding of biochemical concepts
- Expertise in protein purification
- Knowledge of protein and antibody sequences, antibody databases and data management systems, and ELN
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent time management skills and multi-tasking capabilities
- Self motivated team player with excellent written and verbal communication
Desirable Requirements:
- Experience in ADC/AOC purification
- Experience in cell binding and functional assays for antibody/ ADC/AOC characterization is desired
- Antibody/protein analysis and characterization including, but not limited to CE-SDS, A280, AnSEC, RP-HPLC, LC-MS, AnHIC, Endotoxin.
- Automated liquid handling using the Lynx
The salary for this position is expected to range between $73,500 and $136,500 per year.
The final salary offered is determined based on factors like, but not limited to, relevant skills and experience, and upon joining Novartis will be reviewed periodically. Novartis may change the published salary range based on company and market factors.
Your compensation will include a performance-based cash incentive and, depending on the level of the role, eligibility to be considered for annual equity awards.
